Kinderdance (age 3)

Kinderdance is not traditional ballet but it is used to make a smooth transition into ballet. The goal for Kinderdance is to direct the child’s natural urge to move, to begin to strengthen muscles and begin to develop good posture. To develop independent movement; balance, hopping, jumping, skipping, galloping, and other basic locomotor movements are incorporated.

Class times:  Thursday 4:15 – 5:00 pm or Friday 10:30 – 11:15 am

 Pre-Ballet (age 5)

The goal of pre-ballet is assist the student in developing a strong body to take through life and an appreciation for the art of dance. It is the bridge between Kinderdance and Ballet. Students begin to learn age appropriate stretches, basic positions of feet and arms, the concept of parallel versus turned out legs and feet, ballet etiquette and basic ballet terminology. Creative and independent movement, is still part of the class.

Class times:  Monday 5:00 – 6:00 pm or Wednesday 5:00 – 6:00 pm

 Beginning Ballet (ages 6 and up)

Beginning ballet helps each student create the firm foundation needed to improve and progress to the next level of study. Core body strength, arms (port de bras) and correct turnout based on a student’s anatomy and muscular development are emphasized at the barre. Center work is focused on the basics of adagio (slow controlled combination), simple turns across the floor, petit allegro and grand allegro. Before advancing to Intermediate Ballet, students must be able to execute these basic ballet exercises at the barre and in the center safely and correctly.

6-8 year old class times:  Monday 6:00 – 7:00 pm or Thursday 5:30 – 6:30 pm
9 & up class time:   Monday 6:30 – 7:30 pm

 Intermediate Ballet (ages 7 and up)

This class is for students that have successfully completed Beginning Ballet, according to the instructor.  Barre and center combinations move faster and become more complex than they were in Beginning Ballet. Different rhythms are introduced. Turnout based on individual ability and strength continues to be emphasized along with posture and core strength. Preparation for pirouettes and jumps are learned. Proper placement is reinforced by students applying those concepts to the exercises and movements they learn. Head and arm movements are coordinated and synchronized. Memorization of steps and musicality are further developed.

7 – 10 year old class times:  Monday 6:00 – 7:00 pm or Thursday 6:30 – 7:30 pm
9 – 11 year old class times:  Wednesday 6:00 – 7:15 pm or Thursday 7:15 – 8:30 pm
12 & up class time:  Thursday 6:00 – 7:30 pm

 Advanced Ballet (ages 13 and up)

Barre exercises are more complex, center exercises are longer and require more stamina, single pirouettes become double, and simple jumps become embellished with beats (batterie). Emphasis on refinement of form, posture, alignment, musicality, and development of acting skills.

Class time:  Monday 7:30 – 9:00 pm

 Beginning Pointe (must be approved by Miss Meg)

Because pointe requires exceptional strength in the dancer, each student must be approved by Miss Meg who will decide if the student is physically ready for pointe. Emphasis is on strength, posture, and proper form. Student may need to repeat Beginning Pointe until determined by Miss Meg that student is able to move on to the next level. Student must have completed Summer class of Pre-Pointe before taking Beginning Pointe.(see “Dance Connection Prerequisites for Pointe”)

Class time:  Tuesday 7:00 – 8:00 pm

 Intermediate Pointe (must be approved by Miss Meg)

This class builds on the foundation laid in beginning pointe. Even more emphasis on correct form and adding more steps to the repertoire.

Class time:  Wednesday 7:30 – 8:30 pm

 Advanced Pointe (must be approved by Miss Meg)

For serious dances who have developed strong pointe technique and wish to continue to refine and develop their art.

Lyrical (6 and up)

A form of contemporary dance that combines movements from ballet, jazz and modern dance. Beginning Lyrical classes do not require a background in dance. Students will explore partnering and weight sharing exercises combined with basic techniques and skills. It emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract.

1st – 4th grade class time:  Tuesday 6:00 – 7:00 pm
5th – 8th grade class time:  Thursday 5:00 – 6:00 pm
9th – 12th grade class time:  Tuesday 5:00 – 6:00 pm

 Tap (all  ages and levels)

Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm tap. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Hip hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves. Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Therefore class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Strength and Flexibility (11 and up)

This is a core class for any serious dance or those individuals wanting to develop core strength while maintaining flexibility. Each class goes through warm-ups, rigorous strength and flexibility exercises designed for the dancer’s body.  Homework is assigned and each student is expected to do a certain amount of work each day and maintain a workout journal.

Class time:  Tuesday 8:00 – 9:00 pm

 

Tumbling for Dance - Beginners

This class is to help develop skills necessary  to perform “tricks” that can be included in dances (Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical).  For the Beginner level students will work on and master forward and backward rolls, straddle rolls, handstands, cartwheels, backbends.

Class time: Tuesday 7:00 – 8:00 pm

 

Tumbling for Dance – Int/Adv

This class is to further the difficulty level for the “tricks” that can be included in dances.  This level will work on front and back walkovers, round-off back handsprings, ariels, illusions, etc.

Class time:  Wednesday 6:30 – 7:30 pm

 Zumba

When participants see a Zumba class in action, they can’t wait to give it a try. Zumba classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats. Before participants know it, they’re getting fit and their energy levels are soaring! There’s no other fitness class like a Zumba Fitness-Party. It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students.

Class times: Monday and Wednesday 5:30  – 6:30 pm

Awesomely everafter starts here!! Zumba®’s newest program is for babies 0-3 years old (but children up to the age of 5 love it)!  “The new Zumbini™ program is where the science of child development meets the magic of Zumba®! Designed for children 0 to 3 years old and their caregivers, this program takes little ones on their first steps toward a healthy, active life. Together, adults and their young children wiggle, sing, and learn, for the ultimate bonding experience!

 

  • Zumbini classes offer dance ‘n’ play movement, fun props and a chance to play instruments
  • Participants enjoy cool Zumba® music packed with world rhythms and catchy, kid-friendly tunes created just for this program
